Neuro Physiotherapy

The specialist Physiotherapy team works collaboratively with the Occupational Therapy team in several rehabilitation areas, commonly in upper limb rehabilitation. Other adjuncts include mirror therapy, Saebo upper limb equipment, GripAble repetitious games/programmes and micro stimulation and of course our mobilising and handling skills.

Therapy interventions are also integrated into community and functional rehabilitation; there is a strong emphasis on the team working with the individual to look at physical tasks and activities that are important to the individual supported to ensure their rehabilitation is meaningful. Examples include community gym attendance, public swimming, cycling, climbing, fishing, playing musical instruments, vocational rehabilitation and many other activities.

Therapy Interventions

At Ariya our team of physiotherapists can offer a variety of therapy modalities and therapy techniques.

The traditional hands on Bobath techniques are inherent skills used by all the therapists in addition to motor re-learning and repetitious therapy.  The team use evidence base to inform their practice and attend regular continuing professional development (CPD) to ensure they are current and well versed in best practice.

For gait/balance posture and lower limb synergy rehabilitation we can use an overhead track and harness system. This enables us to work on gait speed and repetitions of steps in a safe and supported body weight system.  We also work on balance and reactions times, and this is a great tool to reduce falls risks.

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)

We use Functional Electrical Stimulation Bike for hand and leg cycling. This uses electrical stimulation to activate the muscle to push the bike for upper and lower limb rehabilitation. This allows repetition, strength and movement re training. We also use electrical stimulation for individual muscle/movement pattern rehabilitation tailored to individual needs.

Hydrotherapy

We use hydrotherapy as part of our rehabilitation programmes for balance/core/spasticity/cardiovascular and pain management and movement recovery.
